Our story

Afro Caribbean is run by two friends: Zephirin Joseph, whose dishes come from St. Lucia, and Saloum Jaw, who brings Gambian specialities like mafé domoda. Since opening in July 2026 in the Neubad quarter, they have cooked the Caribbean and West Africa side by side on one menu.

Zephirin learned to cook from his mother, and some dishes on the menu still carry her name. And if Joseph rings a bell: his son is Jason Joseph, the European hurdles champion, and a regular guest at his father's tables.

Joseph and the team made my partner and myself very welcome. As a man of West Indian heritage, and from the UK, it was a breath of fresh air to have well cooked, and well presented dishes. Well done and we eat there again, and again, and again.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was really warm. Will definitely be going back. The must try are the lamb ribs and the bissap - so refreshing.

Everything is homemade - real authentic caribbean food, full plates and fair pricing. Friendly people, I recommend!
